Vicki died tragically in an automobile accident August 10th, 2006 near Central City Nebraska.

Vicki Lynn Clarke, 56, of Mitchell, S.D., died Aug. 10, 2006, near Central City, Neb., as a result of an automobile accident.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, at the First United Methodist Church in Mitchell, S.D. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery at Mitchell, S.D. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today with a 7 p.m. prayer service at the First United Methodist Church in Mitchell, S.D. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to the Mitchell Community Scholarship Fund, Habitat for Humanity, Dakota Wesleyan University or the Avera Queen of Peace Cancer Care Fund.

Vicki Lynn Clarke, daughter of Mildred and Harlan Guida, was born Aug. 27, 1949, in Red Cloud Nebraska. She graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, Neb., in 1971. On Aug. 5, 1978, Vicki married John Clarke in Grand Island, Neb. She taught speech, theatre and drama at Barr Junior High School in Grand Island, Neb., until 1979. In 1980, she began work in marketing and human resources at Overland National Bank in Grand Island, Neb. In 1984, they moved to Mitchell, S.D., and started County Fair Food Stores. In 1986, she became human resource manager at Trail King Industries in Mitchell, S.D., and since 1989 she was human resource manager for County Fair Food Stores.

Vicki served on the DWU Board of Trustees, Mitchell School Board, Avera Queen of Peace Hospital Board and Foundation, was vice chair of State Junior Achievement, a member of the National Women's Grocers of America, Mitchell Community Scholarship Committee and PEO Chapter AP. In 1995, she received the Mitchell Community Service Award. She was a member of the Madrigal/Tannenbaum Festival, Mitchell Area Arts Council (Oscar Howe Arts Center), Gourmet Club and the Bridge Queens and Thursday Night Bridge Club. She was a member of the chamber of commerce board of directors and served as president in 1993. Vicki was also a member of Fortnightly, BCI Investment Club, Life Quest Foundation Board, area community theatre, Habitat For Humanity South Dakota, Women in Blue Jeans Steering Committee, Abbott House Board, United Way Campaign chairperson and president, served on the University of South Dakota Family Business Association Board, Mitchell Lions Club and was an active member of the First United Methodist Church. In 2001, John and Vicki received the South Dakota Retailers of the Year Award.

Survivors include her husband John Clarke of Mitchell, S.D.; daughter Megan (fiancé Justin Luther) both of Atlanta, Ga.; son Steve Clarke of Mitchell, S.D.; sister Judy (husband Warren) Woods of Creston; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ann Strange of Syracuse, Neb., Jim and Lavonne Clarke of Aurora, Neb., Joe and Cyndi Clarke and Dr. Jeff and Kristy Clarke, all of Central City, Neb.; and several nieces and nephews.

Vicki was preceded in death by her parents Harlan and Mildred Guida.
